Half Marathon ( Hurricane) 2:19
( Snow Canyon) 2:02:47
10 K (Enterprise) 1:03
12 K (Hurricane Peach Days) 1:22
Marathon (St. George) 4:32
Painters 5K 36:35
Hurricane Half (2008) 2:02:25 Short-Term Running Goals: I have a half coming up in august in Provo that I talked my wife into trying, and I just started training again for the St George marathon. Long-Term Running Goals: Of course I would some day love to qualify for Boston. Personal: When I started running, which was back in Feb. of 2007, I weighed 110 lbs. more than I do now. Although I do not run as fast as I would like, I feel like as long as I continue to progress, I can make it to my goals. I have found that running has been essential to keeping the weight off for me. When I start to take it easy after a race is over, that is when the pounds can creep back on! Favorite Blogs: |

St George Marathon (26.2 Miles) 04:31:18, Place overall: 3610, Place in age division: 53 | | This was my first marathon, and it was a good experience overall. Don't get me wrong, I realy started to struggle with cramps in my calves and thighs at about 19 miles in, but I was able to finish, and even within about two minutes of what my goal time was. |
| | Today was a 10-mile run. I finished in just under 1:38. I felt like my pace was pretty good until the last 2 miles or so, then I really started to slow down. | |
| |
This was a speed workout. I did a 1-mile warm up, and then did a ladder consisting of a 400, 800, 1200, 800, and 400, with a jog of half the distance inbetween each leg. There was also a 1-mile cool down.
After I got back home, my wife wanted to go for a short jog, so I went for a 2 miler with her. I was surprised how fast I got sore while jogging quite slow!

For the past few weeks, whenever I have to run at the gym and I know that I have to run for about an hour or so, I have been trying to hit 6.55 miles in one hour (half the distance of a half marathon). Today I finally was able to get there!
| | Today I did not have a lot of time, so I had to do a short distance. I decided that I would just go all out and see how fast I could run the three miles. I was able to finish in 27:01. Darn that extra second! |
| | Didn't have a lot of time to run before work, so I could only squeeze this much distance out of 35 minutes. Not too bad for me, but I know that I can do it faster. I am sure that it is mental more than anything. |
| | Since I am training for a half marathon, and I knew that I wanted to go at least 11 miles today, I thought "What the heck, I will just go the whole distance to see what my time will be". Well, my goal for the race is to finish within 2 hours, and I did it in 2:07:30 or so. The problem with where I chose to run today is that the last 2 miles or so is uphill. Not steep really, but steady. Anyway, I figure that with the adreneline and excitement for the race, I might be able to come pretty close! | |

Today was a speed workout. I did:
1 mile warm-up
5-800's with a 400 jog inbetween
1 mile cool-down.
I was pleased overall with this workout. I was able to finish the total distance of 5.75 miles in 52:52.32.
| | I was able to get a tiny bit further in an hour today than I did last time I ran for an hour. Progress is progress no matter how small the amount. :) | |
| | Although I did not have too much time after work today (a 131/2 hour day!), I was able to go to the gym and run on the treadmill for about 40 minutes. By the time the 40 minutes was up, I had gone 4.52 miles, which was a big feat for me! I was very excited at the end of the run, and a part of me (a very small though) kind of wanted to keep going! If only I would have had more time... |
| | I have been taking Friday's off for the past few weeks, but today I decided to just do a nice, easy run. It was kind of fun to just run with no goal in mind. |
| |
I decided to run part of the course for the Snow Canyon half marathon which is this Saturday. I did the 10 miles in 1:30:57, so I was pretty happy with it overall.
| | Today was my speed workout. Since the race is on Sat., we took it easy today. After the 1 mile warm-up, we did 8 400's, with a 200 jog inbetween. Then a 1 mile cool-down. total time was 41:35 for the 4.27 miles. My best 400 was in 1:48, which is pretty good for me. |
| | Nice run today. I didn't have a lot of time, but I was able to get a few miles in. |
| | This will be my last run before the race on Sat. It felt good to get a few miles in tonight. I was able to finish the 3 miles in 27:14. I feel as though I have been making some progress on my speed. |

Snow Canyon Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 02:02:47, Place in age division: 11 | | I really wanted to break 2 hours, but at about 10 1/2-11 miles my left quad (especially right above and to the right of my knee) started to cramp up on me. The course had a lot of downhill in it and I think it was mainly due to the pounding. My time from a half marathon that I ran in May was more than 2:19, so I guess this is a great improvement for me.
| | This was my first run after the half marathon on Sat. I also did a leg workout. I was trying to get the last of the soreness out of my legs. |
| | I have been having a lot of pain in the arch of one of my feet. Because of this pain, I had to jog nearly the entire hour. I am kind of frustrated, but I am not sure if I need to give my foot some time off to recover from whatever this pain is. | |
| | Nothing like a run on Thanksgiving morning. Had to do this one at the gym, as I had to go to work right afterwards. |
| | Today I tried to go a bit faster on the treadmill than I have in the past week. By the time I got the treadmill up to 6.3 miles per hour that pesky pain in my right arch was back with a vengence. I did get me a Strassberg sock today though, so I am excited to see how that and some serious massage and stretching will help. | |
| | Today was a run out on the road, which felt good. I didn't run full speed, but I think it was like 80-85%. I have been wearing the Straussberg sock for two nights now, and I was quite surprised how much better it felt while running. I think if I keep taking it easy and wearing the sock, I should be back to normal soon. | |
| | Three miles is all I had time for after work. I feel like I have been slacking this week, but I was out of town until last night. This morning I just could not get by behind out of bed. Well, I will just do the best I can for the rest of the week, and hope that next week will be better. | |
| | Today is more like it. The pain in my foot (possible PF) feels much better since I have been wearing the Strassburg sock (or as my wife likes to call it, the goofy sock). As I ran today I could feel it a little, but there was very little pain compared to how it was last week. I have only been wearing the sock since Sat night, so I know it will continue to get better. |
| | I decided to take it kind of easy today. Although my foot hardly hurts at all anymore, I feel as if my stamina has decreased somewhat. While running on the treadmill, I an tired and out of breath at a slower speed than I was before the half marathon. |
| | Today has felt the best so far this week. I was able to get back up to the speed I was running before the half marathon. By the time my hour was up on the treadmill, my foot ( PF) hurt a little, but nothing like it was two weeks ago. | |
| | Although this may look like a race, it is acctually just a regular run. I didn't have a particular distance in mind when I set out from my house this morning, and I ended up running all over St George by the time I was done. I guess you could say it was my impersonation of a "Forrest Gump" morning. Anyway, when I got about 1 1/2 blocks away from my wife's work I had hit 13.1 miles, so I thought I would just walk the last little bit. It felt good to get out and run a longer distance, and although my legs are tired and sore, it is a good tired. :) | |
| | Today felt pretty good. I think I could have gone a little faster, but that just means I will be able to push that much harder next time. |
| | Just another run during my break at work, so of course it was on the treadmill. I was silly and thought that I would be able to jog and read a book at the same time. Yeah...that was a dumb idea. It only made me dizzy to try to focus on the page while I was bouncing around! | |
| | I couldn't drag myself out of bed this morning before work, so all I could do was 3 miles on my break today. I have been fighting off a cold, so I guess some running is better than just not going. | |
| | My back was killing me when I got up this morning. I think I slept funny last night or something. The strange thing is that while I was running is when it hurt the least. Other than that, it was a pretty good run. |
| | Today was a pretty good run. I was supposed to do a speed workout this morning with the St George Running Club, but it was decided that it was too cold! I guess I should just be grateful that I don't live up north!!! | |
| | I was able to push a little harder today, but it felt good. I haven't really felt any pain from the PF that I had a few weeks ago, so that makes me happy. So far it has been a good week! | |
| |
Although I didn't have too much time today, I did push myself pretty hard. It felt good overall. |
| | I pushed even harder today, though not by much. Every little bit counts! |
| | Although I did not run with as much intensity, today makes six days in a row that I have run, which makes me pretty happy. I think it has been a good week. | |
| | Today was a cold one. In fact, I would have liked to have run more, but it was too cold. On the bright side, I ran really fast to get home faster! |
| | Today was in the gym, and I did not have too much time. Otherwise it was ok. |
| | I think that I will take it easy this week compared to last week. I still want to try to get 6 days in this week, but I will not focus as hard on mileage. | |
| | I was able to squeeze out 40 minutes during my break today at work. I didn't push as hard as I could have, but I am glad that I was able to do something today. | |
| | While visiting family in North Salt Lake, I decided it would be a good idea to go for an outside run. What a silly fool I was!!! I was running with my sister-in-law today, so she couldn't go very far, which was fine with me because it was bitterly cold. I figure 3 miles in weather like that should be woth 5 or 6 miles inside for sure! | |
